The Hobonichi Mini Envelopes Unsodo: Bijutsukai bring the refined beauty of Meiji-era Japanese design into a versatile and elegant stationery accessory. The patterns are drawn from the celebrated Bijutsukai and Shin Bijutsukai collections, treasured books featuring exquisite works by skilled artisans, designers, and painters whose names are often lost to history.
These collections highlight the art of multicolor woodblock printing and were originally published by Unsodo, a historic Kyoto-based publisher and the only house in Japan devoted exclusively to producing hand-printed woodblock books.
The set includes eight mini envelopes, with two of each design. The yellow-topped envelope features a chrysanthemum pattern on a lattice background. The pink design shows snow-covered branches with wagtails and Baigyoku stripes. The green envelope displays bold red vertical stripes with narcissus flowers, while the blue one depicts fishing nets and plovers, evoking the sea and traditional fishing culture.
While rooted in traditional patterns, the color palette feels refreshingly modern, making each envelope a small decorative piece in its own right.
