Namiki Yukari Maki-e Fountain Pen Cherry Blossoms at Night

Namiki Yukari Maki-e collection embodies the perfect harmony between writing and Japanese art. Each pen is the result of a meeting between the ancient tradition of maki-e and Namiki’s technical excellence. The decorative motifs are entirely handcrafted by the artisans of the Kokkokai collective, guardians of a heritage passed down through generations. These pens are more than writing instruments: they are visual narratives, poetry lacquered onto ebonite, created to be admired, held, and experienced.

Namiki Yukari Maki-e Cherry Blossoms at Night pays tribute to one of the most magical moments in Japanese culture: the nighttime cherry blossom viewing, known as yozakura. But it goes further, capturing the rare and captivating phenomenon of hana akari, when falling petals in the dark appear to glow like stars, spreading a soft light that gently illuminates the night. It is an ephemeral, enchanting scene—one that evokes peace, wonder, and introspection.

The pen’s decoration is crafted using the refined techniques of Flat Maki-e and Raden. Cherry blossoms, painted with gold powder and finished with soft pink lacquer, seem to float in a deep night sky, while delicate mother-of-pearl inlays reflect light like petals glowing under the moon. The background and pen ends are enhanced with the Burnished Maki-e technique, which involves polishing layers of black lacquer and metallic powders to create a rich, three-dimensional effect.

This work is signed by the artist Yumi Hayashi, whose expert and poetic touch brings elegance and mastery to every detail. The pen is equipped with an 18k gold nib and fills ink via Pilot cartridge/converter (Pilot CON-70 included). It comes in a wooden gift box with an ink bottle.
