The Sailor Nawate Kuroginhaku Ei embodies the quiet elegance of Japanese Urushi artistry. The Ei model features a refined matte finish that evokes the calm glow of moonlight, revealing the depth of black through a delicate interplay of shadow and texture. Layers of Urushi lacquer are applied in irregular strokes, over which kuroginhaku — black silver foil — is purposefully scattered. Under shifting light, subtle highlights emerge, creating a living surface rich in nuance.
This work is crafted by lacquer artist Toru Yoshida, third-generation master of the Shikko Yoshida atelier in Aizu Wakamatsu. His ability to blend traditional Aizu-nuri techniques with modern interpretations has given life to Sailor’s Nawate Haku-chirashi series. The pen’s cap features the distinctive vertical Nawate striation, a design that visually elongates the silhouette while providing a secure, stable grip when capping and uncapping.
Made from ebonite and fitted with a 21k gold nib, the Nawate Kuroginhaku Ei offers a writing experience that is soft, expressive and unmistakably Sailor. It fills with Sailor proprietary cartridges or converter, ensuring reliability and precision at every stroke.
A fountain pen that captures the poetry of shadow, perfect for those who appreciate understated beauty and the contemplative nature of fine craftsmanship.
