The Pelikan Souverän M1000 Maki-e Goldfish is a superb limited edition fountain pen that blends traditional Japanese artistry with German engineering excellence. Built on Pelikan’s iconic M1000 model, this writing instrument showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of Maki-e, the ancient art of Japanese lacquer painting.
Two of the most sophisticated Maki-e techniques are employed: Togidashi-Maki-e, which creates a smooth and glossy surface through multiple layers of lacquer polished by hand, and Taka-Maki-e, which gives the artwork a raised texture using thick lacquer and precious metal powders. The combination, known as Togidashi-Taka-Maki-e, adds depth, brilliance, and a unique tactile sensation.
The subject is the goldfish (金魚), a centuries-old symbol of wealth, good fortune, and elegance in Japanese culture. A vivid goldfish is depicted on the cap, while the barrel features a white-and-red fish surrounded by gently waving algae and rippling water. Each detail is meticulously hand-painted and accented with shimmering lacquer and fine gold powder to evoke the calm beauty of a serene pond.
Every pen is individually signed by the Maki-e artist and features an 18k gold nib with rhodium decoration, offering the smooth and expressive writing performance for which Pelikan is renowned.
The Pelikan M1000 Maki-e Goldfish is limited to just 123 pieces worldwide and comes in a luxurious Japanese Paulownia wood gift box – a symbol of refinement and respect.
