The Scribo La Dotta Bamboo fountain pen is the opening chapter of a new trilogy inspired by the Japanese shōchiku-bai, the “Three Friends of Winter”: Bamboo, Pine and Plum. It embodies the deepest meaning of bamboo, a symbol of strength, flexibility and the ability to bend without breaking while looking toward the future with clarity and resolve.
Crafted in Urushi lacquer by master artist Takeshi Matsuyama, La Dotta Bamboo is a tribute to resilience and mindful writing. The surface features an Ishime finish, a tactile, grainy texture that recalls frozen winter earth, while the Maki-e decoration, created with gold and silver powder, traces the stylised silhouette of bamboo on the barrel like a natural ideogram.
Every Scribo La Dotta Bamboo is a limited edition of 68 pieces. The progressive number, from 01/68 to 68/68, is pantograph-engraved on the filling system ring together with the edition name “Bamboo Limited Edition”. On the cap, the signatures of the artist and SCRIBO appear, the latter engraved in katakana, creating a refined dialogue between Italian identity and Japanese tradition.
The gold nib, with its dedicated engraving, completes the story with an intimate detail visible only to the writer. Each line becomes an invitation to slow down, listen and turn the page into a space for inner reflection.
The packaging continues this careful ritual. The fountain pen is housed in a handmade wooden box, closed with a traditional Japanese cord, and accompanied by a pen sleeve made from kimono fabric that wraps the pen like a protective and auspicious talisman.
Scribo La Dotta Bamboo is more than a writing instrument. It is a wish for the year ahead, an invitation to cultivate balance, moral strength and renewed hope. As this first chapter unfolds, it already hints at the arrival of the next two releases, Pine and Plum, which will complete the trilogy dedicated to the Three Friends of Winter.
