The Uni Kuru Toga Dive Abyss Blue is a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil designed to let you fully concentrate on writing while reducing the interruptions normally required to manage the lead. One of the most advanced models in the Kuru Toga family, it combines Uni's renowned automatic lead rotation system with a sophisticated automatic lead advancement mechanism.
While writing, the Kuru Toga Engine comes into action: pressure applied to the lead activates the internal mechanism, progressively rotating the lead. This allows the graphite to wear more evenly around its circumference instead of developing the typical angled edge found on conventional mechanical pencils. The result is a more consistently shaped point and a more uniform line while writing.
The most distinctive feature of the Kuru Toga Dive is its automatic lead advancement system. The movement generated by the Kuru Toga Engine is also used by the internal mechanism to progressively compensate for lead consumption. At predetermined intervals, the lead is automatically advanced, allowing you to continue writing without repeatedly pressing the advance button.
Because lead consumption varies according to lead hardness, writing pressure and individual writing habits, Uni equipped the Dive with a 5-level adjustment dial. By rotating the dial near the tip, you can adjust the amount of lead managed by the automatic mechanism and tailor the pencil's behaviour to your preferred writing style.
Even the beginning of the writing experience has been engineered to eliminate unnecessary actions. The Kuru Toga Dive features a special magnetic cap with an automatic initial lead extension mechanism: removing the cap automatically positions the lead so that the pencil is ready to write. There is no need to press the advance button before starting.
The cap also protects the delicate pencil tip when not in use and features a carefully engineered magnetic closure designed to provide a precise and satisfying closing action.
The Kuru Toga Dive was developed around the concept of “diving into writing”. Uni spent approximately 12 years developing the project with the goal of removing the small interruptions that can break concentration during extended writing sessions.
The Abyss Blue version features a deep blue finish inspired by the stillness and beauty of the ocean depths. It uses 0.5 mm lead.
