The Platinum 3776 Century Travia is a limited edition marking a new chapter in the history of one of Japan’s most iconic fountain pens. The name “Travia” combines Tradition and Via (Latin for “path”), symbolizing a road built on heritage and extending straight into the future.
The story of the #3776 began in 1978, when Platinum developed this model together with novelist and fountain pen collector Haruo Umeda, aiming to create Japan’s ideal fountain pen. Named after Mount Fuji’s height, 3,776 meters, it embodies a pursuit of perfection. In 2011, the #3776 Century was introduced, featuring the groundbreaking Slip & Seal Mechanism, designed to prevent ink from drying out and ensure outstanding everyday reliability.
In 2021, the #3776 Century Decade celebrated the series’ 10th anniversary with a flat-top silhouette and a newly developed softer nib. Today, the 3776 Century Travia carries this legacy forward.
The new FLAF nib – Float Like A Feather
Travia is equipped with the newly engineered FLAF nib, short for Float Like A Feather. True to its name, it delivers a light, airy writing sensation, gliding smoothly across the paper.
Compared to the current #3776 Century Fine nib, the FLAF offers a softer flex response, requiring less pressure to achieve line variation. While the standard “F” and “SF” nibs display a bow-shaped response curve, the FLAF reacts more linearly: line width changes in direct proportion to applied pressure. This results in intuitive control and refined expressiveness, from delicate strokes to bold sweeps.
Enhanced balance and long-body construction
The 3776 Century Travia adopts the flat-top design introduced with the Decade, evolving it into a long-body format with a metal balancer integrated at the center of the barrel. The grip section also incorporates metal components, bringing the center of gravity closer to the fingertips and ensuring stable balance even during extended writing sessions.
Unposted, the pen offers a low, steady balance. Posted, the weight settles comfortably into the hand, enhancing the nib’s airy smoothness. From the first touch, it conveys solidity, comfort, and reassuring presence.
Black & Ruthenium finish
The pen features elegant black plating with a refined sheen. The nib is treated with ruthenium plating, adding depth and understated sophistication. The overall aesthetic is modern and luxurious, perfectly suited to professional environments.
Limited Edition – First batch of 2,000 sets
The first production batch is limited to 2,000 sets and comes in a special package including the booklet “Ah, Fifty Years of Hardship”, a chronicle written by Platinum’s founder Shunichi Nakata. Together, pen and booklet tell a single story flowing from past to present and toward an unwritten future.
Beyond tradition. The Platinum 3776 Century Travia is a fountain pen designed to move forward with you and your story.
